As part of "Affordable Housing Day," city officials announced Monday the completion of 100,000 affordable homes.

Back in 2005, Mayor Michael Bloomberg set a goal of 165,000 homes.

Shaun Donovan, the city's former Housing Commissioner and current secretary of the U.S. Department for Housing and Urban Development, promised the federal government will do all it can to make sure there is plenty of affordable housing in the city.

"As we celebrate the 100,000th unit. As we celebrate the 125,000th unit; and as you reach 150,000 units and then accomplish the goal of 165,000 units, you will have a federal partner standing side by side with you every step of the way," Donovan said.

"We really together are helping thousands and thousands of families realize the dream of home ownership," Bloomberg said.

Following the announcement, city officials took part in a five-borough tour highlighting the diversity of the units.

Officials also broke ground on the future site of the True Color Residences in The Bronx.

It will be the first permanent housing facility in the city with support services for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in their late teens and early 20s.
