Governor David Paterson will face legal action over his decision to put state construction projects on hold.
The General Contractors Association, which represents city road workers, said it will file a lawsuit against the state next Wednesday over withheld payments.
Earlier this week, Paterson halted work on hundreds of construction projects in an effort to save the state hundreds of millions of dollars.
Projects at the Gowanus, Van Wyck and Staten Island Expressways are all affected.
Only projects paid for with federal stimulus funds will move forward. The rest will have to wait until the state Legislature and the governor come up with a spending plan.
Any project that addresses emergency health and safety needs will be exempt from the suspension.
