A high-level Board of Elections executive has some of his co-workers fuming, because they say he regularly smokes at his desk, despite their complaints.
An amateur video taken earlier this week and obtained by NY1 shows BOE Deputy Director George Gonzalez smoking at his desk.
Several sources told NY1 that Gonzalez smokes constantly in his office.
Gonzalez admitted to NY1 that he was smoking in the tape, but said it was the only time he broke the city's anti-smoking laws.
Gonzalez said there have been smoking allegations against him in the past but Department of Health inspectors have found no evidence of his smoking in the office, a claim supported by a DOH spokesperson.
City employees face fines between $200 to $2,000 if they break the nonsmoking law.
