In an exclusive interview Tuesday with NY1, Former Staten Island Congressman Vito Fossella expressed regret over the scandals that drove him from office two years ago.
Fossella made the remarks while appearing on NY1's "Inside City Hall."
During the interview, Fossella spoke frankly about what he took away from the episode that ended his political career.
"The lesson learned in large part is to do the right thing, you know, when you can and be straight with all the people who are important in your life," Fossella said.
Joining the NY1 Wiseguys as a guest panelist, Fossella said he has no plans to return to politics. He also reflected on his career in Washington, D.C.
"In life, you move on and you deal with what God gives you in the next day," Fossella said. "Did I enjoy it? Did I think that we accomplished some good things done for the people that I represent? Yes. Was it a great honor? I think the highest you can have in public life is to represent your hometown in Congress. So it’s not a question of missing, it’s a question of 'Did I enjoy and did I appreciate the opportunity to serve? And the answer to that is yes."
Fossella resigned his seat after a drunk driving arrest and revelations he fathered a child in an extramarital affair.
