Some streets will be closed Wednesday for the city's St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Fifth Avenue from 44th to 86th Streets will be closed, as the parade runs up that avenue. The staging area will also be closed to traffic – that's 44th to 46th Streets from Vanderbilt Avenue to Sixth Avenue and 47th to 48th Streets from Park Avenue to Sixth Avenue.

The Central Park transverse streets will remain open to traffic.

Pedestrians will be able to cross the parade route, but only at certain locations.

Those attending the parade are encouraged to take public transportation. The Long Island Railroad is adding extra service to accommodate the crowds expected.

Alcohol is prohibited and police will be out in force confiscating any alcoholic beverages.
