School bus drivers who transport city students voted Tuesday to authorize a strike.
Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1181 say talks with companies that provide bus transportation for the city have stalled over health care benefits.
Union leaders say the companies' health insurance proposal would bankrupt the health insurance fund in three years, leaving members with no coverage.
The leaders say drivers will continue to safely transport school children.
Local 1181 represents bus drivers, mechanics and escorts.
