The city is calling for donations in its effort to care for the thousands of homeless, abused, and injured animals brought to its Animal Care and Control shelters.

About 3,500 animals are cared for at the shelters each month.
The ACC will lose $315,000 by this June and another $450,000 starting July 1 due to budget cuts.

As a result, the ACC is asking the public to open their pockets to help support the animals.

In addition to financial donations, the agency is accepting canned food, cat litter, toys and even used newspapers, which will be used to line the cages.

“They all have a blanket and they all have a toy in their cage and we want to continue that,” said Richard Gentles of the ACC. “It’s very important to relieve their stress and keep them entertained while they’re here.”
