A Lower Manhattan courthouse was shut down Tuesday after a fire in the basement forced the evacuation of hundreds.

Five firefighters, two civilians and one prisoner were injured in the fire at 100 Centre Street.

All of the injuries are being described as minor.

Flames broke out just after 10:30 a.m. and it took crews over an hour to bring the blaze under control.

"All of a sudden like five or six police officers dashed into the room and they said 'you need to vacate the building immediately because there is a fire,'" said one person in the courthouse at the time of the fire. "Then everybody started running and by the time we got down to the third or fourth floor, we saw smoke."

The Office of Court Administration says the fire may have been caused by construction in the basement.

The fire also delayed the sentencing of rapper Lil' Wayne, who was expected to receive a year in prison for attempted criminal possession of a weapon.
