Threads with a side of theater hit the runway last week. NY1’s Michelle Park filed the following report on Malan Breton’s latest collection.

Fashion met Bollywood at the Malan Breton Fall 2010 show.

Hand-beaded saris, vivid fabrics and swanky separates danced down the runway. And that wasn’t the only dancing going on, as singers and dancers made it a full-on production.
the show was a full-on production.

"The whole concept of the show is theater,” said designer Malan Breton. “You really have to look at fashion and music and theater and art."

But inspiration for fashion doesn’t always have to come from art. For Breton, it came from somewhere very personal.

"I'm sorry, I'm going to get emotional, because my niece was actually adopted from India,” he said. “The concept of the show came from what it would look like if you were looking at life through a child's eyes."

All eyes, and ears, were on the runway as “American Idol” contestant Anoop Desai performed his latest single for the show's finale.

"Everything Malan showcased tonight was beautiful,” the singer said. “I would have worn anything.”

Celebrities like “Ugly Betty's” Mark Indelicato say Breton’s collection definitely flows nicely from Bollywood to Hollywood.

"I thought that it was very innovative, very fun, not too buttoned up. I liked it,” said Indelicato. “It’s something I could see Mark St. James on ‘Ugly Betty’ wearing. We all know we've seen him in neon suits before."

Bollywood can surely sparkle.
