Medical Expert Says Mineo's Injuries Don't Support Claims

By: NY1 News

A medical expert called to the stand by the defense today said the man who charged a police officer sodomized him inside a subway station did not have severe enough wounds to support his claim.

Michael Mineo has said that he was assaulted inside a Brooklyn subway station in October 2008.

But Dr. Frank Sconzo, who did not treat Mineo, testified today that it's possible that Mineo had a pre-existing condition that caused his symptoms and that the abscess that formed after the incident did not contain bacteria that would suggest the injuries came from assault.

However, a doctor testifying for the prosecution last week said Mineo's injuries were consistent with assault.

Officer Richard Kern has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse and assault. Officer Alex Cruz and Officer Andrew Morales have been charged with hindering prosecution and official misconduct.
