McDonalds kicked off Black History Month Tuesday by honoring Black Media Legends.
NY1 Anchor Cheryl Wills was one of 18 people honored at the annual event at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
The Faces of Black History was created to salute and honor black history makers throughout the community and country.
This year's honorees were commended for their positive impact on the black community through their achievements and examples.
"The most important thing that I do is bring children from Harlem and the Bronx through the newsroom, so they can see what's possible for them, because one of the things I did not have growing up was a role model when I was a very young girl. I would watch many of the legends in this room and wonder how they got there," Wills said.
A poster featuring the honorees was also unveiled Tuesday.
The posters will be given away for free at more than 600 McDonald's restaurants throughout the area.
