Embattled former Nets star Jayson Williams has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in the shooting death of a limo driver in 2002.
Williams has agreed to serve 18 months to five years in prison, and will be eligible for parole in 18 months.
Williams was facing retrial this week on a reckless manslaughter charge, but pleaded guilty today to the lesser charge which carries a minimum 18-month sentence because a gun was involved.
He has already been convicted of covering up the shooting of Costas Christofi at Williams' New Jersey mansion, but was acquitted of the more serious aggravated manslaughter charge.
He is still awaiting sentencing for the cover up.
This comes less than a week after Williams was involved in a car crash in Manhattan.
He was in the passenger seat when officers arrived and told police the driver fled the scene. But witnesses say they saw Williams behind the wheel, and he refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Williams was arrested on drunk driving charges, but has not entered a plea.
