Mayor Michael Bloomberg presided over the ceremonial swearing-in of five City Council members today, all of them from the Republican minority caucus.
Special NY1 coverage of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's inauguration starts at 11 a.m. Friday.
Minority Leader James Oddo, Councilman Vincent Ignizio, Councilman Eric Ulrich and Councilmen-elect Dan Halloran and Peter Koo all took the oath of office at the city clerk's office, following the ceremony at City Hall.
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio was also sworn in today at the city clerk's office.
All City Council members will be officially sworn in on January 6.
For citywide officials, the ceremony will be even grander.
Crews were setting up the stands and testing the microphones today ahead of Friday's event, which will include the swearing-in of Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
"Going in the right direction is great, but resting on your laurels is not something you're going to do," Bloomberg said of what's in store for his third term. "You can slip back very easily. Particularly during tough economic times. So I'm going to try to outline a little bit of a vision as to how we go about [preventing] that. I think New Yorkers are expecting a lot from us and I'm excited to make sure we deliver."
Bloomberg said he wants to continue to keep the crime rate down and encourage community service.
