A Manhattan hotel worker was arraigned Monday afternoon on charges he allegedly raped a woman while she slept inside her hotel room late Sunday night.

According to police, Jaime Marin Lopez Mendoza, 27, was an employee at the Dream Hotel on West 55th Street. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 28-year-old woman at the hotel on Sunday just before 4 a.m.

"I think that's quite scary actually to think you come here as a tourist and that goes on in your hotel," said one hotel guest.

Sources say the woman told police that her and her boyfriend were very drunk Sunday morning and were having trouble getting back into their room. The woman says, according to sources, that Mendoza helped them into the room and then either stayed in the room or let himself back in.

Sources say the woman woke up to the employee raping her.

When she realized what was happening, sources say she screamed and Mendoza fled the scene.

One hotel guest who spoke with NY1 said they heard the commotion.

"There was a girl standing down the hallway and when I said 'please be quiet' she started talking about some man trying to have sex with her or something, so I called down to the reception and told them about what was going on and they said they had already called security," said one hotel guest.

"It's disturbing. You'd think they do background checks I always latch my door no matter where I'm staying, but still, that shouldn't happen," said another hotel guest.

The Dream Hotel says they are fully cooperating with the investigation.
