An ambulance rushing a patient to the hospital fatally struck a pedestrian in Brooklyn this morning.
Sources say an emergency medical services vehicle struck a 80-year-old woman as she was standing in a crosswalk on Bay Parkway by the Belt Parkway just after 6 a.m.
The ambulance was transporting a 100-year-old woman with stomach pains to Lutheran Hospital. It is unclear whether or not the ambulance had its sirens on, which is not always required when transporting a patient.
Sources say the ambulance driver was given a breathalyzer test and was found not to be driving under the influence.
An investigation is ongoing.
