Broadway may be considered by some to be a national pastime, but more international patrons are taking in shows than ever before.
The Broadway League's annual demographics report shows foreign visitors now account for 21 percent of Broadway audiences.
Overall, domestic and international tourists make up about 63 percent of Broadway ticket sales.
The average Broadway theater-goer is about 42 years old, which is slightly older than last year.
The report also shows the percentage of audiences that buy tickets on the Internet increased from 7 percent to 40 percent since the 1999-2000 season.
Online purchasing was the most popular method of ticket buying for the fifth year in a row.
The findings are based on data taken from audience questionnaires throughout the season.
