Attorney General Eric Holder made an unannounced visit to the city Wednesday to inspect security ahead of the September 11th terror trials.
The FBI says Holder met with the federal and local law enforcement officials in Manhattan to discuss logistics and how to coordinate security for the upcoming trials.
Holder also inspected the federal jail and nearby courthouse where the trial is due to take place.
Professed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and four of his alleged co-conspirators are due to stand trial on charges they plotted the nation's worst terrorist attack.
No trial date has been set.
Meanwhile, a federal grand jury is reportedly hearing evidence against the five suspects.
A number of reports say it could take several weeks for an indictment to be handed up.
