A man who was hailed as a September 11th hero will spend at least a year in prison for his role in a World Trade Center cleanup scam.

Former Port Authority field operations manager Mark Jakubek was convicted Friday of taking nearly $60 thousand in bribes during the project.

Prosecutors say he let an asbestos-cleanup company overcharge for work after the attacks, and is one of a dozen men who pleaded guilty for their roles in the scam.

Jakubek was labeled a hero for rescuing people trapped in a World Trade Center elevator on September 11th.

No sentencing date has been set.
