A Manhattan girl whose battle with leukemia put her dream of meeting President Barack Obama on hold was awake and breathing on her own by Saturday.

Jasmina Anema, above right, was scheduled to attend the annual White House turkey pardoning ceremony through the Make-A-Wish Foundation but was instead rushed to the hospital.

Anema no longer has a breathing tube and can talk again, according to her mother.

As of Saturday, the young girl was still in intensive care, but her mother hoped she could come home by the end of next week.

Obama called the family at the hospital to wish Anema well.

Family members hope Anema will be able to talk to the president on the phone in the coming days.
