A Queens man has been charged with two counts of second degree murder and weapons possession after his wife and teenage son were found with their throats slit in a Corona apartment Saturday.

According to police, Otto Herrarte, 48, is blaming the crime on his split personality.

Police discovered the bodies of a 55-year-old woman and her 14-year-old son Saturday afternoon inside an apartment on 111th Street in Corona.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown says Herrarte called a co-worker to tell her he had cut his wife's throat. When the woman arrived at the apartment, she found the bodies wrapped in plastic inside a closet and called police.

Queens Assemblyman Jose Peralta says the co-worker is Herrarte's mistress.

"The wife found out about the girlfriend. He killed the wife and the child, and the son, while they were sleeping and then invited the girlfriend to come over and see what he's done. And that's when the girlfriend found the bodies in the closet," Peralta said.

"I think it's many things. He getting more with different women. He goes to drinking, I heard about that. He was doing drugs, too. So there's a few things involved with this," said the victim's brother in law, Jose Pur.

Published reports say Herrarte told police he has a split personality, and the Daily News says he blamed his alter ego for the killings.

Neighbors at the scene say they were shocked to hear about the violence.

"I'm surprised that this happened here because this is a very good neighborhood. You can walk anytime at night and nobody bothers you. And it's alarming to even know that this is happening in this neighborhood," said one neighbor.

"People around here get along. This is where everybody say hello to one another. What happened in this building over here is crazy," said another neighbor.

The Queens DA says there were no prior domestic abuse calls from the apartment.

Herrarte also has a 15-year-old son who was not injured and is now staying with relatives.
