Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, and Elmo celebrated a big anniversary Monday in Manhattan.
The corner of 64th and Broadway in Lincoln Square was temporarily renamed Sesame Street in honor of the 40th anniversary of the children's show.
The street sign is located across from Sesame Workshop's corporate headquarters.
"I'm thrilled about this. I wish it were permanent. It's wonderful to have a real Sesame Street in New York," said "Sesame Street" creator Joan Ganz Cooney.
"Now there are two Sesame Streets, you know. I hope my mail doesn't get lost though. I hope my mail goes to the right address," said "Sesame Street" character Cookie Monster.
The city has proclaimed Tuesday, the actual anniversary, as "Sesame Street Day."
