Vaccinations centers are open in all five boroughs this weekend for pregnant women and people between the ages of four and 24 to receive the H1N1 flu shot or nasal spray.
The clinics, which will be open for five weekends in November and December, are focused to serve middle- and high school students. Each clinic can serve up to 500 children per hour.
Students under age 18 must have signed parental consent forms and everyone under age 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The city Department of Health also recommends the H1N1 vaccines for health care workers, child care workers and people with long-term health problems.
DOH officials say that flu vaccines can cause mild side effects, but that few develop severe reactions.
For more information on both the H1N1 and seasonal flu viruses and to find vaccination sites, call 311 or visit nyc.gov/flu.
