Former New York City mayor David Dinkins is throwing his support behind Councilman John Liu in the race for city comptroller.

The endorsement comes two days before Liu goes up against Councilman David Yassky in a runoff primary election.

Neither candidate achieved 40 percent of the vote in the primary earlier this month.

Liu also has the backing of former comptroller candidate David Weprin while Yassky picked up the support from another formal rival, Councilwoman Melinda Katz.

The winner will move on to compete in November's general election.

NY1 will have full coverage of Tuesday's election.
