Jury selection is expected to begin Monday in State Senator Hiram Monserrate's assault trial.
The 42-year-old Queens senator was arrested in December after prosecutors say he slashed his girlfriend Karla Giraldo in the face with a piece of broken glass.
They both claimed the incident was an accident, but a judge denied a motion to dismiss the case.
If convicted, Monserrate could lose his seat and get up to seven years in prison.
Monserrate was one of the democrats who switched parties back in June, causing a month-long leadership deadlock in Albany.
