The "Naked Cowboy" is shedding more than just his clothes.
Robert John Burck, the Times Square fixture who performs in just his underwear, boots, and a hat, has dropped his campaign for mayor.
Burck threw his hat into the mayor's race as an independent back in July. But he has decided to call it quits, saying he's had enough of the red tape that goes with a run for mayor.
He says the last straw came when the city's Conflicts of Interest Board fined him $250 for failing to file a required financial disclosure form.
Burck says the only way to be taken seriously is to appear in a suit and tie.
But his political aspirations have not been completely stripped away. A spokesman for his campaign says the Naked Cowboy will pursue public office in the future.
