Workers at a Brooklyn hospital are wondering whether they will have a job after the holiday weekend.

Officials at Victory Memorial Hospital and Nursing Center in Fort Hamilton said 250 people were laid off by hospital management Friday.

The move had several patients worried about the care they will receive, as well as the future of the workers.

"I think that layoff was horrible. We need more nurses here. We don't get enough help," said one patient.

"They know us by name. They know people in the neighborhood," said another. "It's a shock and I'm really sad to see them go."

"What's happening here is unfortunate, but hopefully they can come back to the hospital as well as the nursing home," said nurse Stephanie Zogby.

The hospital's director said most of those who are laid off will be rehired to the same positions by another company on Tuesday.
