A vigil was held Thursday night for a student who was assaulted in Brooklyn last month.

Community members lit candles in honor of 22-year-old Pratt Institute student Eduardo Sanchez, who was nearly beaten to death in Clinton Hill in August.

Sanchez is now beginning to recover after coming out of a coma.

Faculty and staff joined the group outside the school in what they call a stand against violence in their community.

"It concerns me a great deal because as a commuter I'm concerned for my own safety as well as all my friends. Lots of us have begun to ride bikes to try to prevent this from happening again, but there's no real security that protects the students and all we want to do is just commute to and from our houses and now it's just impossible," said Pratt Institute student Alejandra Obregon.

"This time we really wanted to take a stand and get together and come together and offer our support for one another as a community," said Laura Benko of the Clexby Neighborhood Association.

Eugene Adams, 16, has been charged with assault.

Investigators say he also stole Sanchez's cell phone and money in the attack.
