Thousands gathered in Prospect Park in Brooklyn Saturday for a massive block party to honor the late pop icon Michael Jackson on what would have been his 51st birthday.

Despite the rain, fans gathered to Prospect Park's Nethermead Field to play Jackson's music, emulate his famed dance moves and honor their beloved entertainer.

"I don't care if there was a blizzard out here. I love Michael, I love the Jackson family and I wouldn't miss it for the world," said one fan.

"I have to be here because he's not here to celebrate his birthday," said another emotional fan.

Filmmaker Spike Lee organized the free event.

"We're going to party until the cops pull the plug," said Lee.

The event was originally planned for just 2,000 people in Fort Greene Park, but was moved to accommodate a larger crowd.

Borough President Marty Markowitz also declared Saturday to be officially "Michael Jackson Day."
