A studio in Brooklyn is teaching New Yorkers how to build their own bike while hoping to spread the skill to developing countries.

The Bamboo Bike Studio in Red Hook is holding workshops for cyclists to make their own sustainable ride.

The frame of the bikes are made from bamboo found in the city.

Organizers say this is all in preparation to start the first bamboo bike factory in Africa where transportation isn't always available.

"Our goal is to provide a really efficient and affordable, long term solution, or bicycle for these people so that they can do the things that they need to do just to get through life," said Justin Aguinaldo of the Bamboo Bike Studio.

The class takes place on Saturdays and each bike costs $1,250.
