Police have made an arrest in the deadly shooting of a livery cab driver in the Bronx late Sunday night.
Police say Benny Delgado, 31, was seen running from the scene after the shooting on Wales Avenue in Mott Haven. According to sources, he was carrying a 25-caliber handgun.
Jose Pena-Seguira, 42, was shot in the head around 10:30 Sunday night. After the shooting, he crashed his Lincoln Town Car into two parked cars.
Pena-Seguira, who was a driver for Kiss Cab Company, was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital.
Sources say that Delgado is on parole for murder. Charges against him are pending in regards to this latest shooting.
According to sources, there was no partition in Pena-Seguira's cab.
Meanwhile, Pena-Seguira's family and co-workers are calling on city leaders to do more to protect drivers.
"It's outrageous that these drivers have to go out and work every single day, 12 to 15 hours a day, not knowing if they're picking up their last fare," said Fernando Mateo of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers.
Pena-Seguira is the third driver to be killed on the job in the Bronx this year.
