A federal judge upheld the criminal indictment against former State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno.

In a 17-page ruling issued Friday, the judge denied defense motions to derail or delay the case.

Bruno was indicted in January on federal corruption charges.

Among other accusations, the Republican is accused of using his position to steer contracts and grants to businesses that paid him at least $3 million from 1993 to 2006.

A spokesman insists Bruno is "guilty of nothing."

Bruno retired last July after more than a dozen years leading the state senate.

His trial is set to begin in November.
