City Council Approves Fire Safety Bill

By: NY1 News

The City Council passed legislation Thursday aimed at preventing tragedies similar to the Deutsche Bank Fire.

The new fire safety law includes stricter rules for construction sites. Daily inspections of standpipes will be required to ensure that they are working.

The law does not apply to buildings that are owned, leased or operated by the state.

Back in 2007, firefighters Robert Beddia and Joseph Graffagnino died after they could not get water out of a broken standpipe inside the Deutsche Bank Building.
