A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man charged in a recent hate-crime attack on Staten Island.
Joseph Sweeney, 23, of Brooklyn did not show up for his arraignment on charges stemming from the June 17th attack.
Prosecutors say Sweeney and 28-year old Albijond Kaja attacked a man at a Bulls Head gas station with a baseball bat.
The DA says Sweeney thought the Nicaraguan victim was Mexican and yelled racial slurs while beating him. The attackers allegedly stole $200 from the victim who suffered serious head injuries.
Kaja pleaded not guilty to felony robbery and assault. He does not face bias crime charges for the attack.
