Queens Soldier Dies In Afghanistan

The Department of Defense confirmed Wednesday that a Marine from Queens died this week while fighting in Afghanistan.
Lance Corporal Leopold Damas, 26, died on Monday in the Helmand province.
According to a friend, Damas had wanted to be a Marine since he was a child.
"One thing about him when he wanted to do something he was very dedicated. Whatever it was, if he was into a video game, or he was into sports or whatever," said one friend.
Damas grew up in St. Albans and graduated from Newtown High School in Flushing.
He last lived in Floral Park.
