Actors from the Broadway show "In the Heights" gathered on their day off to pick up garbage in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan.
They say they are hoping to set a positive example and inspire community members to follow their lead.
"We decided, you know, it's such a great place to live and to be," said "In the Heights" actor Doreen Montalvo. "And we're in Washington Heights and we basically live on our set, so we decided it'd be really great if we just did a clean up day."
"Since the show deals with the aspect of family in your neighborhood, I thought it would be great to come out and take care of someone else's neighborhood," added fellow cast member Kevin Santos.
The musical tells the stories of a fictitious cast of characters in Washington Heights.
