At least one man died and four people were injured in two shootings on the same Brooklyn block on Saturday.

Police say shots were first fired shortly after 2 a.m. at 436 Atkins Avenue in East New York.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the head and torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another 21-year-old man was shot in the groin and taken to the hospital.

"It was a birthday party and going back to college party, and people tried to crash the party and that's where the trouble started," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Police said they recovered a .32 caliber gun at the scene.

As of Saturday evening, they were questioning someone in connection with the shooting.

Then, shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, three other people were shot on the same block - Atkins Avenue between New Lots and Hegeman Avenues.

One person was shot in the arm and shoulder, one was shot in the leg and one was shot in the stomach. All three were taken to Brookdale Hospital.

As of 6 p.m. Saturday, police had made no arrests and did not know whether the two shootings were related.
