More than a thousand kids from across the city competed Wednesday in the 7th annual CityParks track and field meet.
The event took place at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island.
Kids ages five through 16 competed in running, jumping and throwing events.
The athletes say it's a great way to stay in shape and meet new friends.
"This is my second year. I like it. I plan on being back," said Gold medalist Malcolm Dixon.
"I'm into running. I love to run, so doing track and field is always something I look forward to," said Silver medalist Kaisha Gravesande.
"It'd be nice if every person took fitness so seriously and made it something you did every day when you got up as part of your lifestyle," said CityParks Track & Field Director George Febles. "So if these kids get all this positive reinforcement of competition and encouragement from the coaches, and make it something they do the rest of their lives, we feel we accomplished a lot."
Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded in each event.
