The building boom on Manhattan's West Side has some elected officials fearing overcrowing in neighborhood schools.

A new report by State Senator Tom Duane says over the next 10 years, Hell's Kitchen may have four times as many kids in elementary school as available seats.

Duane says unless more classrooms are created, more than a thousand kids will be without seats by 2019.

"There's lots of different options to create more classroom space and we are ready, willing and able to work with the department of education to make that happen, but we need them to sit down and plan with us so that we don't have a classroom crisis like we've had in other parts of my district and frankly throughout Manhattan," Duane said.

NY1 has reached out to the Department of Education for comment.
