A Brooklyn street corner where an Ecuadoran immigrant was beaten to death in an alleged hate crime was renamed Saturday in his honor.

Jose Sucuzhañay's family and local officials said the sign in Bushwick will be a reminder of a generous man who tried to give back to his community.

"More symbolic than anything, we want to bring a sense of hope to our community, a sense of accomplishment, a sense of what this community stands for," said Brooklyn Councilwoman Diana Reyna. "What it has struggled and what it continues to fight against. This community has never seen such a tragic, violent act of hate."

Sucuzhanay and his brother Romel were attacked by two men with baseball bats as they walked home in December.

Witnesses say the suspects hurled racial and anti-gay slurs at the brothers.

Keith Phoenix and Hakim Scott were arrested in the attack and charged with murder as a hate crime, manslaughter, assault and attempted assault.
