Seven children were taken to the hospital after a mini-roller coaster ride derailed at a Bronx carnival Saturday night.

The fire department said the children's coaster ran off its tracks around 9:30 p.m. at a carnival held at St. Theresa Church in Pelham Bay.

A church volunteer, Matty Pennacchia, said he was grateful the children only suffered bumps and bruises.

"I heard the commotion and a lot of the parents were upset, and I helped a few of the security people," said Pennacchia. "We had held back some of the people that were here that were rushing to the scene. And thank God, no one was seriously injured."

By Sunday night, it was still clear how many children were on the ride when it derailed or who was running the carnival.
