People around the world are protesting the Iranian election in coordinated demonstrations.
Human rights supporters rallied in Times Square Saturday to make a "Global Day Of Action" to demand the release of the hundreds, even thousands of people believed to have been detained during protests in Iran following last month's disputed election.
They then marched to the United Nations.
Thousands of Iranians have protested the results, which returned Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to power.
"The people of Iran have experienced their lives under the Islamic Republic for 30 years and they have exhausted every possible avenue to exercise their rights," said one protester. "And this last election was the straw that broke the camel's back. Not counting their votes, not considering their voices, and they're fed up."
"We want to send the message to the international community, particularly to United Nations, that Secretary General Bon Ki-moon must immediately dispatch envoys to investigate disappearances, detainments, torture and other right abuses," said organizer Sina Shirazi.
"My message to my people in Iran is we are here, we support them. All of us, either people here or people in Iran, we will fight for freedom in Iran," said another protester.
People also took to the streets of London carrying signs and wearing blindfolds. Many wore green as a sign of support for the opposition movement in Iran.
Similar protests were held worldwide in more than 80 cities, including locations in Germany, France, South Korea and Belgium.
