More than 40 teams tested their skills Saturday at the 19th annual Coney Island Sand Sculpting contest.

Spectators were treated to more than a dozen sandy creations ranging from classic castles to sea creatures, even a car.

The sand-filled competition features both professionals and amateurs looking to take home the top prize.

"I'm a pretty good artist and it's just a form of therapy you can actually pound the sand and mold it and get all your stress out and it's stress relieving," said one participant.

"We've had really great competitions. Children from three to four years old, families working together. That's why we started this, as something that families could do together," said Coney Island Sand Sculpting contest organizer Judy Libby.

Cash prizes were handed out to first, second and third place winners in five different categories.
