A prayer vigil was held Sunday to remember police-shooting victim Shem Walker.
Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries joined community leaders at Walker's home on Lafayette Avenue.
"This community is united behind this family," Jeffries said.
Police say Walker was shot and killed last Saturday, after he told an undercover narcotics officer sitting on his stoop to leave and then attacked the officer when he refused.
"If someone asks you to move, you move," said Walker's daughter Shavonne. "You don't live there, you don't pay rent there, absolutely move. He didn't have to blow his cover, he could have just moved, and we wouldn't have to go through this."
Community members joined hands in prayer with the family, praying to heal the Walkers pain and demand justice.
"We stand here to say we want to do everything in our power so that his death is not in vain," said Assemblyman Karim Camara.
"We do not feel the NYPD has the ability to conduct an independent investigation, which is why we are pleased the DA is leading the inquiry on what happened on the fateful night," said Jeffries.

Assemblyman Jefferies and City Councilwoman Leticia James are calling for anyone who heard or saw something that night to come forward.
"We need witnesses now," James said.
Though overwhelmed by the support, and her grief, Shavonne Walker says for her father's sake, she will not give up.
"I will fight for justice if it's the last thing that I do," she said.
Walker's funeral will be at 7 p.m. Monday at his mother's church, Full Gospel Assembly. The Reverend Al Sharpton will deliver the eulogy.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call a special hotline set up by the District Attorney's Office. The number is 718-250-2759.
