Police have arrested an elevator operator in connection to the death of a cleaning woman who was found inside a Lower Manhattan office building last weekend.

Investigators say Joseph Pabon was taken into custody around 7:30 p.m. Friday after police pulled him over on Staten Island.

Police say DNA evidence helped link Pabon to Eridania Rodriguez's murder.

His lawyer said Pabon went home sick before Rodriguez, pictured on the right, even arrived at work.

Rodriguez's body was found Saturday in an air conditioning duct in the Rector Street building where she worked.

Authorities say her hands and face were bound with tape.

The medical examiner later determined Rodriguez had died of asphyxiation.
