The family of the man shot to death by an undercover police officer in Brooklyn over the weekend is calling for an investigation.

Police say a narcotics officer on a drug operation was sitting on a stoop on Lafayette Street in Clinton Hill Saturday night. They say 49-year-old Shem Walker came out of his home, told the officer to leave and attacked after he refused.

The two struggled over the officer's gun before it went off twice, hitting Walker once in the chest. He was later pronounced dead at Brooklyn Hospital.

Walker's family and their attorney's are disputing the NYPD's account. Their attorney's are urging anyone who witnessed the shooting to contact the Kings County District Attorney rather than the NYPD.

"Mr. Walker has always done his best to protect his family from the streets, from those who loiter on his steps," said Attorney Carl Husbands. "And it's quite ironic that the one person he thought would support him is the one that took his life. So the family is looking for answers. They're not anti-police, they are just pro-answers."

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says there are no eyewitnesses other than the police officers that were with the officer who shot Walker.

He says the information they have gathered will go to the district attorney who will determine whether or not to present it to a grand jury.
