Throgs Neck Bridge Fire Caused By Blow Torch

A blow torch is being blamed for the fire under the Throgs Neck Bridge Friday that
shutdown the span and clogged traffic.Fire officials say the blaze broke out in a construction shed underneath the span. However, the circumstances surrounding exactly how the blow torch ignited the fire are not yet known.
One Bronx-bound lane is still closed and trucks are being diverted to the RFK Bridge.
Queens bound lanes are open with no restrictions.
The Bronx-bound ramp on the Cross Island Parkway is also closed for safety reasons.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Bridges and Tunnels says it's too soon to tell how long these restrictions will be in place.
