The medical examiner says asphyxiation was the cause of death for the woman found inside a Lower Manhattan office building where a cleaning woman vanished on Tuesday.
Police found the body in an air conditioning duct on the 12th floor of the Rector Street building after seeing blood leaking from the ventilation system.
The victim had suffered a head wound and had tape on her face, hands and feet.
This, as police work to identify the body as 46-year-old Eridania Rodriguez.
The 26-floor skyscraper was the last place the cleaning woman was seen alive. The building's cameras caught her midway through her shift Tuesday night, but never recorded her leaving.
Police also say Rodriguez's cleaning cart was found abandoned on the 8th floor and her belongings were still in her locker.
Her family says Rodriguez had recently complained of feeling unsafe, and was planning to quit.
"She was afraid of work there, there was no cameras in any of the floors, you have guys following her around and exposing themselves to her," said Victor Martinez, Eridania's brother. "There were very unsafe working conditions there and that's why this was supposed to be her last week of work, but unfortunately it turned out another way."
So far, no arrests have been made.
