Hundreds of food lovers got a sneak preview of the upcoming New York City Restaurant Week Thursday at a spirited sampling event on the Upper West Side.

The cast of Broadway's "Hair" provided the soundtrack for diners at the Great Tastes of Summer Event.

Free gourmet dishes were provided from top restaurants and their famed chefs. Samplers even got a taste of what they can have next week at some of New York's best eateries for a discounted price.

"We do very modern American cuisine, it's certainly European roots so we do things like a flan of roasted red peppers, a little salad with crab meat, long beans and marjoram," said South Gate chef Kerry Heffernan.

Restaurant Week will run from July 12th to the 31st, including Saturdays.

It will cost diners $24 for a three course lunch and $35 for three course dinners.
