Authorities investigated Saturday the shooting of an armed Bronx man by plainclothes police officers.
It happened just before 4 a.m. on Home Street in Morrisania.
Police said they chased a 47-year-old man who had a loaded gun, and that the man ran toward plainclothes officers.
One of the officers fired three times, hitting the man in three places.
The man was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he was in critical condition on Saturday.
Residents said there is an increased police presence in the area following a number of crimes.
"We do see police patrol, sometimes on foot, mostly by car," said local Ann Ortiz. "Unfortunately most of the time we see them is when they're chasing somebody. Sometimes we have to call them."
The suspect's gun, seen above, was recovered from the scene.
Police said the officers displayed their shields and said witnesses heard the officers identify themselves.
