Preparations are underway for the 33rd annual Macy's Fourth of July fireworks display.

More than 75 technicians and pyrotechnic experts have been working to make sure the show goes off without a hitch.

The shells will be launched from six barges along the Hudson River to mark the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage to America.

The show's producers say it usually takes them 14 days of prep work and testing to make sure the show goes on.

"We got over 45,000 pounds of fireworks, 44,000 individual aerial shells, some one inch in diameter on up to 12 inches in diameter, that will launch synchronized to a musical score," explained show designer Gary Souza.

"There isn't anybody on these barges that's not a licensed pyrotechnician," said Robin Hall, the show's executive producer. "This is the most experienced group of people in the United States of America to do the show. This group of people has been doing this for 30 years on and off."

The show is set to begin Saturday at 9 p.m.
